The Emotion Code Chart Explained

The Emotion Code chart is a simple grid of 60 emotions that practitioners use, together with muscle testing, to identify a specific trapped emotion to release. Created by Dr Bradley Nelson, it organises emotions into six rows and two columns so a practitioner can narrow down, step by step, exactly which emotion the body is holding. If you've seen the chart and wondered how it actually works, here's a clear explanation, and a reminder that as a client you never need to study it yourself; your practitioner guides everything.

What the chart is

The Emotion Code chart lays out 60 common emotions in a structured grid:

  • Two columns (labelled A and B)
  • Six rows, each associated with a pair of body systems or organs
  • Each cell contains a small list of related emotions

This structure is what makes the method quick: rather than guessing from 60 options, a practitioner can zero in through a few simple yes/no steps.

How a practitioner uses it

Using muscle testing, the practitioner narrows the chart down:

  1. Column — is the trapped emotion in column A or B?
  2. Row — which of the six rows?
  3. Emotion — which specific emotion in that cell?

Once identified, they use a gentle release technique to clear it. You can read more about the wider method in our guide to the Emotion Code.

Why the chart is structured this way

Each row links to body systems, reflecting the Emotion Code idea that emotional energy can be associated with different areas of the body. The two-column, six-row design simply makes the search efficient and consistent from session to session.

What this means for you as a client

You don't need to own, print, or memorise the chart. It's a practitioner's tool. In a session you simply rest while the practitioner works through it, and there's no need to retell painful experiences in detail. This work is part of our Personal Growth Journey and working with an Emotion Code practitioner in the UK.

Common misconceptions

  • "You read the chart to diagnose yourself." You don't. It guides a practitioner's process; it isn't a self-diagnosis tool.
  • "The chart treats illness." It doesn't. It's part of a complementary wellbeing practice, not medical care.

A note on complementary care

The Emotion Code and its chart are part of a complementary wellbeing practice and not a replacement for medical or psychological care.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Emotion Code chart?

The Emotion Code chart is a grid of 60 emotions, organised into six rows and two columns, that practitioners use with muscle testing to identify a specific trapped emotion. It was created by Dr Bradley Nelson as part of the Emotion Code method.

How is the Emotion Code chart used?

A practitioner uses muscle testing to narrow down the chart step by step, first the column, then the row, then the specific emotion, until they identify the trapped emotion to release. It is a guide for the process, not something you read for yourself.

What are the columns and rows on the chart?

The chart has two columns (A and B) and six rows, each linked to a pair of body systems or organs. Each cell contains a list of emotions. This structure helps a practitioner locate one specific emotion efficiently.

Do I need the chart to release trapped emotions?

The chart is a tool practitioners use. As a client, you don't need to study or own it. The practitioner guides the whole process gently.

Is the Emotion Code chart a medical diagnostic tool?

No. The chart is part of a complementary wellbeing practice, not a medical or diagnostic instrument.
